Rust in oil?

    Strider380 Can I have a zip tie?

Sorry for all the questions guys, but this one really bothers me, and you guys are the most reliable source of information I have yet to find. In a straight 6, I have rust on my dip stick everytime I pull it. On the very tip there is also this white blob that seems to form. Everything will just wipe right off the dipstick. The oil is nice and clean and when I drain the oil it looks normal. The only thing I can think off is a blown head gasket and/or cracked head. Am I correct or could it be something else? I am not losing antifreeze I don't think and there is white smoke that comes out of my exhaust upon startup but I always assosiated that with condensation. It goes away after it runs for maybe 10 or 20 seconds. So what do you think? Head gasket?

I think it is jsut condensation on the dipstick. Some cliamtes differ than others. You may need a better seal on top to try and keep the atmosphere inside the dipstick tube from getting condensation but it might just never happen. i would worry much about it. Maybe take the dipstick and clean the heck out of it, derust it and coat it with a paint that can withstand oil and heat. We have a lvie truck at the station and i was worknig on thetransmisiion last week and i pulled the dipstick out and it was rusty also. Tranny runs fine just a little condensation. I wouldnt worry about it much. If the headgasket is blown you will ahve much more symptons that that.
