Trans Noise and back fire?????

Hello Folks
I took the Jeep (1955 CJ5) out for a spin.
First I had some back fireing out the tail pipe and sounded like out the carb.
It is a solex carb.

And then when I would shift it in rev. or 1st I got this sound that the gear was skipping but it was not it was in gear and would go.

So those are my two issues today.
Any ideas would be very helpful thanks so much
