Bent T-case Front Output

Well my Dana18 is spread all over the bench getting a well deserved rebuild. Upon reassembling the output shaft I noticed a slight bind in rotating it. Disassembled and found the front output clutch shaft to be bent.

At the end the runout is .023", so now it's just a paper weight. This whole rebuild started when I pulled the pan to reseal it. Found a ball bearing in the pan. After pulling the t-case found that 25% of the trans output bearing balls were missing. It's evident that they had been bouncing around in the t-case. I figure one must have wedged against a gear and bent the shaft.

Could have been worse though. That's one tough transfer case.

it's always easier at home in your garage then out on the trail....

 

T-14 output shaft bearing ? Been there done that. R) I found the remnants of my bearing in my t-case as well but I found no apparent damage. It is good you found it at home instead of it letting you know on the trail.
