That a great idea...... RamAir on a CJ5, that should be worth about 50 more HP.R)

My wife and I always take a trip to Panama City Beach, Destin, or Ft. Walton every summer, maybe this year we can meet for lunch or dinner.

Have done a few projects on the JEEP recently. Got a set of aftermarket slotted wheels. Would rather not tell what I did to get the wheels to shine as it falls into one of those "Kids don't try this at home" categories. Put on a set of 33x10.50 BFG MT. Had to install wheel spacers in the front to mount them over the discs. Once the tires were under the fenders, started looking at the trail damage on the rear. Decided to cover over with diamond plate for now. Not a big fan of diamond plate, but it does look better to my eye than a mangled quarter.

It's some kind of vintage mount that is bolted to the factory rear bumper/drawbar. During the resto I tried to take it off; it literally would not budge. Broke an impact socket using a 3' breaker bar. I'm wondering if it isn't a dealer installed option, similar to the Ren mounts. It pivots so that you can still use the tailgate. When I bought it there were clips holding on; I removed them and bolted the tailgate shut with grade 5 hardware since it doesn't get used.

Eh - looks good with the wheels though. Could have gone with the steel corners like I used - painted to match or to contrast.

    Wheels/tires look good.

Nice front bumper too - is that aftermarket? If so - who made it?

Thanks Clint, no big rush. Just curious more than anything as I need a way to carry my spare. Do you think the PTO would work with the tire mounted that way?

    Yup.

Here's a pic from the tear down. Look just aft of the tank and on the top of the bumper. The carrier has a large pin on the bottom that allows it to pivot for tailgate operation. One end of the pin slips into the eye on the left, and the other end rests on the hook on the right. It can't get out of the hook because it is bolted to the tailgate at the top. Works good.

It was made by Eddie Reighard. http://earlycj5.com/featured/reighard/

He does great work at reasonable prices. He's retired Army, did his twenty and was poking around for post-military work and decided to start up a fab shop. He operates as "Ground Pounder Fab." Easiest way I know to get a hold of him is PM username "BESRK" over on Jeepforum. You can find him on eBay, too, but more or less as a billboard, not a good listing of what all he can do, which is pretty much everything.

Here's a link to some of his work. You can Google "BESRK bumper" or "BESRK tire carrier" and find a lot more: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=547013

Here's a shot of my HEEP:

Been a rough summer for the HEEP. It all started last spring when I got mad at my trusty Chevy S10 and put it up on Craigslist. It sold the next day. Wish I hadn't done that. I had been using the S10 to drive to work. My thought at the time was that I would just start using the HEEP. Reaching bonafide DD status would be sure justification to the wife for more parts, right? Anyway, long story longer, the HEEP protested. Exploded my drivetrain. Input shaft twisted like a candy cane and then sheared, Warn OD needs surgery.

I bought a Ford T-18 runner and swapped input shafts. Had to drop the trans a second time because I put the wrong input bearing retainer on the front. (ugh) FYI, an input shaft retainer with a stickout longer than 3.25" will cause a GM diaphragm to compess. DAMHIK.

Back on the road now. Fixing the trans got me some motivation back (and getting the HEEP out of the garage gave me a spot to work). Dug the D30 out of hiding that has been sitting in my garage for years now. Hoping to do that and the F250 shock upgrade sometime this month.

I have a set of those F250 shock towers, too. I'm curious to see how you mount them. It looks like the easy way for a factory length shock will interfere with the fender sheet metal.
