I have a 1961 CJ5 F Head. The seller who owned it since 1964 had an after market (Jeep Approved?) power brake booster installed, it mounted on the drivers side inner fender, about where the horn used to mount.
It is a circa 64 or 65 unit. I believe I can have it restored for about $200.00.
Is this unit worth having with the 9" brakes, or should I consider another alternative to improve stopping ability?

11" Brakes are hands-down the best way to upgrade 9" drums. IMHO it isn't a "need more pressure" issue it's a "need more friction" issue.

More friction makes a lot of sense.

Swapping in 11" brakes in front makes a huge huge difference and is very easy to do. If you're still running a single chamber master cylinder, consider swapping to a dual chamber (search the forum, or check out Herm the overdrive guy web page for a kit). I was cheap and pressed for time, so I'm still running a single chamber master cylinder. No biggie, and I didn't need to add a proportioning valve since the rears are still 9". The master cylinder doesn't worry me until I think about it...like right now...
