    OK

I have finally started to disassemble my venting windshield frame. I took a bunch of pics as I went along to help along on reassembly and for some inquiring minds out there. I will post a couple pics here but if anyone wants to view more just click on the photobucket link.

There was some question as to how the inner glass was sealed and how the inner/outer weather seal was installed. I can say that the weather seal I received from Debella's appears correct in that it is molded to directly slide into the slot as seen in the photo below and is the right length. Of course I will know better after my frame is is sandblasted, repaired, and if possible powder coated.

Sliding the driver's side glass out. At first I thought there was a windshield strip but I believe it to be glass setting tape or channel liner of some sort. Any ideas? Did not appear to have anyother type of sealant other than the tape.

Looks good! I just picked one of these up last night for my cj6!:) So there's a inner and outer seal? Mine is missing. I'm about to restore mine as well. Thanks for the pics.

So how rare are these venting windsheilds? Where they only on over sea's and ambulance model's or where they an opption? My Jeep buyer's Guide by Jim Allen dosen't even list them that I saw. :coffee:

    Windyhill,

They are fairly rare. There's several folks on this site that have em though. I heard rumor that someone is now building after market ones. My 61 Cj has one and it is not ambulance version or overseas that I know of.

If you're going to rebuild it, you should get ahold of Pete DeBella at DeBella's Jeep Parts. He has new rubber gaskets/seals for these.

I'd be interested to know if thats true. I was going to fab one for the 65 if I can't get one., I found one in Chicago, but the guy wanted $850, too much for my wallet.

These are the only ones being made that I know of.

None for the early CJ, but they could probably do it.

Those are cool, but you might run into a legality issue with using one open on the street on late model vehicles. I've heard that it's OK to use them on vintage vehicles where things like that were original equipment, but illegal on vehicles that didn't come that way. Like old Jeeps and other vehicles that didn't have backup lights or turn signals, etc., you can get by without them.
