Ok I know spec on a 225CI is 33 at 2400 RPM based on my 66 Chiltons Manual and my Jeepster service manual, as well as searches on here... I have that much easily (I think it is closer to 40) but I have not been able to find a spec at idle through the search... I am running ~15ish at idle when I am at ~173* on the temp gauge. I know spec on an SBC is 5 or 8 at idle hot, but that is a whole different animal. Anyone know an Idle hot spec, (that is at about 700RPM) I know also an SBC gains about 10psi for every 1,000 RPM but again a whole 'nother animal.

Is a rebuild in my Future? I only asked because I am paranoid about OP as I have smoked a few in my day, and I hate low Idle OP

I idle with 19 I think and 40 when I'm on the gas. What oil are you running? I went a little thicker (don't remember exactly what I chose though) because I'm in Phoenix so I don't worry about cold weather performance.

I assume 10W30, but The engine had a fresh oil and filter on it when I got it, so I haven't changed it yet, I was going to change it when I put it on the road.

My engine before rebuild ran around 20-22psi at idle. With a hi-volume pump runs around 30-32psi at idle and around 60psi at road speed.

Everything I've read has not been too happy with the high volume pumps, something about gears wearing out. Do you have that problem or did you find a way around it?

My factory gears had excessive wear on them, but my motor also had 166k on it when I rebuilt it.
My thinking on the wear was how much do I drive it. Most of the guys on here won't drive there Jeeps 50,000 miles on them in the next 10-15 years so why worry. I have and will check the distributor often and as of yet have found none, it only has 1500-1600 miles on it in 2 years. helical cut gears are prone to wear by design. I also have a bronze gear on my distributor so it will more than likely wear 1st.
