    Hey guys,
I just finished installing one of those automatic posi-locks from Quadratec, and went for a test drive. I have a problem though. The Dana 27 is ALWAYS locked into posi and will not slip at all. This causes my power steering pump to voice its protests loudly and then one of the Warn lockers will pop out. After that, all problems stop and everything is fine, but I no longer have my posi. HELP! What did I do wrong?

When I rebuilt my warn hubs I had a heck of a time. Mine were marked and would only engage and disengage when lined up correctly to the marks. I did not notice this until I figured out they were not working. Does not make sense to me. I also put too much grease in the hubs and had problems with the same thing. That is where I would start looking.

Would the hubs be causing my problem? It seems to me that they are working alright until they just have so much force applied to them that they rotate out of position. My main concern right now is that my new automatic posilocker isn't unlocking to allow me to turn my wheels.

What brand/type of unit (posi) are we talking about, exactly? If you have Warn Lock-O-Matic hubs, they can be a problem with LS and locking diffs.

Okay, here is what I have, and now that I am looking at the paper, I think I have not been using the right name so... I have the Lock Right automatic positive-locking differntial by Powertrax. It is supposed to ratchet in a turn according to the manual. I also have Warn Lock-O-Matic hubs on the Dana 27A that the new lockright is in.

The lock right won't ratchet, is there some kind of compatibility issue?

I think there are compatibility issues between the LockRight and the LockoMatic Hubs. You need to go to manual hubs, such as Warn Premiums.

When the manual hubs are unlocked, you'll never notice the locker. When you lock the hubs in there will be a significant difference in traction, steering and turning.

Okay, found the problem... Two small shims that were on the spider gears needed to be inserted with the new LS as well. Those two tiny shims made a world of difference. There was no problem with hubs and everything was compatible.

I still wasn't able to get through the mud hole that I wanted to though. I bottomed out in the soft stuff ans that was all she wrote, and the engine died after too much water got it in, so that didn't help matters... Now my one hour of play will equal three or more hours of fixing that new sound that is being emitted from the engine. R)

    Thanks for the info!

Don't forget to manually lock your hubs whenever you can. The auto locking mechanism works well but is designed more as a convenience than for heavy wheeling. It can cause undue stress on the hubs, especially when slamming between first and reverse.

When I had the Lock-O-Matics, I couldn't keep them unlocked on the street (or trail). Apparently there was just enough friction in the front driveline to make them lockup. That was with a Powerlock diff. Before I put that in I had no problems with them.
