Last time it went out, I replaced the speedo cable only to find that the driven gear was striped. I replace the gear. Today it has failed again. I removed the cable at the speedometer head and the speedometer spins freely. Then I try to spin the cable in the housing and it doesn't turn. Now what?

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

it won't turn at the speedo end unless it's disconnected at the lower end...
or the gear is bad again down below
take the cable loose at the t/case and try turning it

If the cable is broken it can easily get stuck in the cable housing and not turn. Mine has been like that for over a year. Who needs to know how fast they're going anyway? If I'm nervous, I'm doin about 55 mph, if I'm scared I must be up around 60 - 65 mph.
