Is an international 258 the same as a jeep 258?

I have always heard and read that the scout 258 is indeed the same as a jeep 258, both being AMC engines. I have recently purchased a '75 CJ6 with the 258 and it looks to be shot. After looking for a local AMC 258 all I have come up with is an old scout that has a 258 straight 6. I am pretty sure they are the same, just wanted to make sure here first. Thanks for any input, Chris.

I don't know - probably. Binder stuff is generally different from everybody else, but if all you want is the block it may be ok. Is it cheap? Can you look at it or hear it run first?

You might try asking on the Binder Bulletin site - they may not be too enthusiasitc about taking IH parts for an AMC though.

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

    yes
    IH used AMC in-line sixes
the basic engine would be the same
mounts, hoses, pulleys, brackets may be diff

I was told it ran decent when parked a few months ago. And yes, I think I can get it pretty cheap. You see, it didn't originally belong to the guy I know, he only shared a shop space/rental with a fella that left town and dropped the ball on his end. Anyway, so now he has it by default and to recoup what was lost in rent from this guy and just doesn't know a lot about it or really want it taking up space, thus he rolled the contraption outside and covered it with a tarp. That is where I came into the picture. Thanks for the input
