Well I just got me a single wire alternator and installed it and now i am having some problems. This is how it is wired:

Alternator to the Ammeter. Ammeter to the ignition switch. At the same point on the ignition switch I have the wiring running down to the battery cable on the starter.

The problem is that when the battery and the alternator are both part of the circuit at slightly high RPM's the alternator makes a real bad wineing noise. At low RPMS's no noise. If the battery is taken out of the circuit then the jeep is fine, no wineing. I took the alternator to the FLAPS and they tested it and everything was good. I guess I just dont understand what could be the problem. Its like thier is some type of feedback going to the alternator at higher RPM's. Any thoughts. Oh ya you guys are the ones that convinced me to go to the one wire instead of the three wire.

I have read that diagram. How do I connect my ammeter into this circuit to monitor my alternator?

I hope this doesn't sound sarcastic, I really don't mean for it to come across that way, but it's called "1 wire" for a reason; just hook the alt up to your starter solenoid or batt, depending on your setup, and you're done. For the ammeter, there should be a second wire coming off of the batt that goes to your general ign switch or fuse block area. Run the ammeter inline with that wire. I highly recommend some kind of fusible link close to the battery on that wire if you don't already have one.
