The tub on my cj5 requires quite a bit of work and I have an opportunity to buy a M38 A1 tub that is in great shape for really cheap. Does anyone know of any problems that I may encounter in fitting a M38 A1 tub on a cj5?

I think there is a problem with the body mount under the gas tank well. When I replaced the floor supports on my M38a1. I had to cut the floor support. I found the CJ5 has a flat floor where the gas tank well goes. When I cut the floor support there was a body mount in the foor support. Being that I don't have a CJ5 I don't know if there is body mount there or not.

Scott,on the cj5 there is no body mounts under the gas tank. There is one in the front and one behind it.I just took off my tub yesterday.I just went out and double checked.I used have a M38A1 a 53.The only differances I remember were the fuel tank opening and the batt box and tailgate other than that the bodys and frames a very simmilar. The m38 has a different rear crossbar for a pintle hitch.I hopes this helps you,Deak

One thing though, My '53 M38A1 has the E-brake lever mounted between the seats, not under the dash. The connecting rod goes through the floor right where the Warn OD mounts under the tub so you may need to do some fabricating to keep your CJ E-brake set up.
