    Hey everyone,
I just got back from put putting in the back woods and I came across a serious problem. Once or twice the 225 died from stalling and both times, I had to wait for everything to cool down before the starter would even turn over again. The first time I had to sit out in the woods for 45 minutes. I watched my temp gauge and while cruising around like that it sits around 160*. The starter wouldn't kick back in and turn over until the engine came down to 110*. Is it a starter problem or something else? How do I fix it?

Hit it with a hammer next time, then change the starter. the bendix is going bad.

GM had a big problem with that back in the '70s and '80s. Partly solved by putting a heat shield around the starter, partly solved by moving the exhaust away from the starter. I think they finally went to a different starter.:coffee:

I've heard of this problem from several sources. I never had trouble but I went ahead and made a heat shield out of aluminum that bolts to the frame and rolls up between the starter and the headers. You can buy the heat shield also - I would start by checking at Summit or just Google it.
    Some info on MadElectrical.com also.
