I'm rebuilding an L-head and have been trying to figure out how to remove the oil slinger behind the timing chain gears from the crankshaft.

There seems to be some sort of lip off the crank shaft that makes it look like there would be a grove on the oil slinger that when I line up it would just slide off. The only problem is that I can't find a grove on the oil slinger to save my life. I've tried spinning it all around and can't seem to get it to come off.

    Am I missing something here?

    Thanks,
    Evan

Are you talking about the key in the crankshaft? You'll have to remove that first.

It should be half moon shaped, so if you tap downward on the back end of it the front end should come up. Hopefully you can pry it up.
