I think I have identified what some of the leak problem might be on my D18 xfer case. The mount kit bushings were not installed on the xfer. They were missing when I bought it, and I did not miss them until I looked closely at some FSM diagrams a couple of days ago. Ordered a new one to install when I reassemble.

I think the missing mount kit may have caused a lot to torque and twisting between the xfer and the transmission. The gasket that goes between the two units was very torn up when I pulled the xfer, and it was only 8 months old with 1500 miles on it.

Could this be some of the problem?

Also, The rear output shaft nut was stripped. I ordered a new one from Krage that came today. The nut is 3/4" and does not quite fit. I rummaged through my bolt bin and came up with a
7/8" fine thread that spins onto the shaft just like it was meant to be there.

Any thoughts out there on the differing nut problem? Could the shaft be 7/8" ?

they sent me the wrong one too. but it was MY fault. i didn't describe the part correctly. i think i confused both of us on the phone...;)
the front and the rear are different sizes for the 18 xfer case.
make sure that you are telling them the correct output shaft. seems like when i told them the name i was actually telling them the other end of the transfer case.
make sure it's a locking nut. preferably not a used one.
i did get one from herm that was correct.

They changed the thread on the output shafts somewheres along the way. :( I replaced the front output shaft on Tonk when we got him & the nut from the old one didn't fit.
