Well after installing my master cylinder today it would seem that i have more troubles now than when I started. My new master cylinder has the same thread pattern as the old on but it seems the tube seats are in deeper than the old one. By the tube seats being in deeper the tube nuts which are on my brake lines wont thread in far enough to seal the connections. I have a double flare on the ends, but they are collapsed from being too tight so tomorrow i am going to bring home my flare kit from work ad try re-flaring them. Just in case that doesn't work i have been going over some other options in my head. One i was thinking of is that, you know how alot of pre-made brake lines have one long tube nut and one short, well when looking at Advance Auto today all the 5/16" brake lines had 2 short tube nuts on them. I have been searching online for longer tube nuts for 5/16" tubing with 1/2"-20 threads but have had no real luck other than the .62" long ones.

I guess what I am really trying to get around to asking is has anyone else ran into a similar problem? Also does anyone else know where i might be able to find the longer tube nuts i am looking for? so far the best place i have found would have to be protubeonline or fittings4less, but still not quite what i am looking for.

Ehh oh well time for a few     so i dont lose my mind.

Most FLAPS have a selection of various lengths of premade brake lines. They have one long and one short tube nut on each piece IIRC. They are very inexpensive (I think the longest one I bought was ~$5), easy to bend to shape, and have perfect flares. One should fit the bill for you.:v6:

People like Krage jeep parts will sell you a bag of assorted fittings with both long and short nuts. I keep rolls of tubing and a bunch of "mixed nuts" on hand. Along with a double flare tool I no longer worry about fixing brake lines. A bending tool and a couple of special tube nut wrenches make life even sweeter.

Any FLAPS ought to be able to put this together for you for not too much money.

I checked the Advance Auto and the Pepboys with no luck all the tubes had the short fittings on them I didnt go to the other end of town to see what carquest and napa had but I doubt I would have much better luck there as i havent really seen much of anything online either, I also looked at Home Depot.

I have been thinking about this and have come to the conclusion that if reflaring it doesnt work then I am going to put the new master cylinder in the milling machine and take the thread bosses down about 1/8" (the difference between the old and new) so it wont be a problem in the future if I would ever have to replace a brake line.

I love my intermediate but i am seeing why AMC is no longer doing buisiness. When it came to building jeeps it seems that they just used whatever was available not caring about the repair parts market. I dont know if the earlies are like this or not but boy does it stink sometimes .
