I replaced my master cylinder today on my '72 and decided that since my brake lights have been operating off of a toggle switch for about a year now that I would go ahead and put a new pressure switch in so they worked right again (old master cylinder the port for the switch was plugged with crap). Anyway i put the new switch in and still no brake lights. Is there some sort of way that you have to bleed the switch or something?

    No need to bleed it.

Did you check to be sure you were getting 12V to one side of the switch?

Also make sure pedal is making contact with switch? On mine ('73) after rewiring, the switch wasn't sitting in the bracket correctly, therefor not allowing contact. (Wish I had checked that before going staight to the lights and re-doing all my connections! )

No contact to make, it's a pressure switch on '72s.

Yes there is 12 volts to one wire. When i touch the two wires together the brake lights come on, and when i take the switch out of the master cylinder fluid comes out when i press on the pedal so i am thinking maybe i got a bad switch, i just have no way to test to verify for sure without getting another one. I have had this one for a while but it was still new. I only paid i think a buck fifty or so for it so i guess i will try a new one. I'll be starting a new thread after i get back from dinner on the rest of the questions i came up with today.

    Interesting.

Sounds like it could be a bad switch. Perhaps someone else here will know more.

One thing you have to make sure is that the switch is appropriate for brake setup. If you installed a power brake booster, "be sure that whatever switch you get is rated for the increased pressure of the power assisted brakes."

I would suspect the switch. I have put in an average of one switch a year on my 72. I can't remember the brand name but ask at your flaps for the best quality manufacturer. My last switch has lasted 2 years. Does blue streak ring a bell as a manufacturer? I think that is what I got last time.
