My cj2a had both the alternator and battery go bad at the same time. I believe it was due to ashorted cell in the battery. I replaced the alternator with an alternator used in a 93 buick. The alternator has terminals marked one and two and a batt. terminal. The set up seemed to fine for awhile, however, the battery started to drain down every couple of days. The wire from the ignition switch goes to terminal 2 and a jumper wire goes from 1 to 2. The battery terminal goes to the battery post of the starting solenoid. This was the way the original 12 volt modification was made. There is no voltage regulator in the circuit. There is an ammeter in the dash and for awhile the amperage after start would show a positive charge and then go back to a normal current indication. There were times though when the ammeter would show a 30 amp charge and not want to drop after the vehicle was run for awhile. Any ideas as to how this wiring should be changed for proper operation.
