I slide the coil wire up into the insulation, unhook the battery and back when it used to park behind the garage I chained the tires together. figure most punks around by me are looking for gas anyway.

Take the rear tire off of it and put it in the garage.

Wish I could, I rent while I'm going to college and all my tools, jack stand included are back in NY (I'm in Arizona). I do most of my work at a friend's house. I think I'm going to just disconnect the battery and the coil wire then pull my rusted out XJ up behind it in the driveway as far as I possibly can. Nobody has ever touched my XJ and one of the doors doesn't even lock on it. Down the street were the yuppies live ($300,000 condos and Lexuses parked out front) I've seen a few windows bashed in to take stereos.

Rent a 10x15 storage unit for a month and put it inside. End of problem.

I had my jeep stolden out of a storage shed it devestated me. I had parking inc. on it but that wouldnt even cover parts. I would sugest light it up and put it on blocks. make it so any one messing with it will have to make noise. tie tin cans to the under side of hood so when opened it makes noise. weld bolts so the cant come off on things like rool cage and winch.
the best advice I can give is light it up and make it hard to get quitly.

Hutch has a good amount of crime, mostly stealing stuff out of your cars, not the cars themselves. My Jeep sits in the garage while my "good" vehicle sits in the driveway. I would like to keep the Jeep on the street but I'm more afraid of the soft top getting stolen or slashed them I am of the Jeep walking off. I guess I should just turn it into my daily driver and leave it in the driveway....:)

I have two JEEPs. My 68 sits on the street in front of my house, unlocked and vulnerable, but I drive it often. Never had a single thing touched or messed with.

My '65 is a "project" that is being stored at my FIL's in Oklahoma. He is the Sheriff of the county he resides in, and everyone knows that (as if the shotgun mounted in the Z71 that has lights and typical patrol car markings in the driveway isn't enough). He is pi$$ed and embarrassed that both headlight trim rings and a few other things have been stolen in the past year right out of his yard.

Moral of the story: I think a vehicle that looks like it isn't running is more likely to get messed with. I think thieves have a clearer conscience, rationalizing that the person wasn't going to use whatever they stole any way.

Same thing happened to my dad's 1948 International KB2 pickup. In his driveway for years, then one night someone decided that they would steal the original windshield visor (fairly scarce factory option, I have personally never seen another with one still on it). My guess is that it was somebody doing their own restoration that finally decided that if that truck wasn't going to move, they "needed" that visor more than my dad.

put it storage for a month. whats $30 bux? i agree about the AZ jeep theft. i was there for over a year and worried every day someone would hook up and tow it off. especially if they dont see anyone around for a bit. i dont know about it where you live, but a storage place for a month? quick easy fix.
also, get a lowjack for it just in case. may not be much left on it when you get back, but atleast youll have the bastage who jacked ya and you can park whats left of your jeep on his carcass..0=)

I remember when jeepen had his jeep stolen out of the storage unit, not good! He got it back a few months later minus most of the good parts. If you do go the storage unit route, make sure they have a security system (in working order) and make them garantee that it is always on.
Another option is to get insurance. I buy this on my snowmobiles, not for crash purposes, but because they are parked outside often and some knucklehead will probably steal them before I crash them.
Also good porch lights and big logging chains will deture most crooks. But if they cant steal the whole jeep, they might still try to take the easy stuff, battery, radio, speakers. The bright porch lights seem to work for me, hard to sneak around in the light. Good luck and have a good vacation.

Im amazed - in the area I live in, we leave cars unlocked and keys in the ignition!

Right now, my wife's Jeep is parked in the woods in my back yard until Christmas when she gets it. I never thought about anyone thinking about doing anything to it.

When we lived within Cleveland City limits we got our Wrangler broken into 3 times by slashing the windows. At this point I said "screw it" and just kept it unlocked from that point on - it never happened again. Those friggin windows are expensive!

I know of one guy who kept getting his gas stolen out of his plow truck, so he made a sticker that said "Diesel Fuel Only" and stuck it near the fuel cap - no more problems!

Currently its sitting with the distributor disconnected, the choke all the way in so it won't start, parked in by my roommate's car and the battery is almost dead so it will barely crank, let alone fire if they hook back up the distributor.
