I have a 58 CJ5, all stock. Have read a lot about the pertronix ignition system and wanted to know if it will fit my distributor and, if so, what part # I need to look for. Thanks

Depends on the distributor # in your engine. IIRC the #1541 and #1548 kits are the most popular, but a quick call to Pertronix will settle it. Be sure to have the number off the distributor tag handy when you call. ;)

I have installed one in my 55 f-head it worked great until I smoked it trying out a electronic ign. coil, stick with a standard coil with a resistor.

The instructions with my pertronix kit (#1541) specifically stated NOT to use a ballast resistor, the unit needs the full 12-volts to work properly.

I would use the Pertronix Blaster coil IMHO and wire it just the way they say to in the installation instructions.

If wired properly, the Pertronix sees 12V.... The ballast only feeds the + side of the ignition coil......
