    Hi Guys,

It's been slow going on the project... but I got the rear bumper fitted the other night. No paint on it yet - but take a look. I still need to figure out where/how I will mount my hi-lift jack and shovel. If you have any ideas - send them my way.

    thanks

Looks geat! for the jack and shovel you could extend the tube to the tire mounting plate a couple inches and make mounts to hold the jack and shovel behind the tire. (in between the tire and triangular frame)

Thanks for all of the compliments, comments, and ideas guys. I experimented a bit and have a notion to do something between the spare tire and mounting frame itself. Maybe vertically. I also like the example of the diagonal from Shows. I haven’t ruled out the front – however, that is pretty loaded up with weight already with the chevy small block & winch bumper with winch and accessories. So I wanted to balance out the jeep – putting some weight in back.

As far how it is mounted to the frame. – I’ll try and take some photos and post later. It’s back off the jeep for more fab work and paint. But, it has 3 main points to mount. 2 mounting points are on just outside the frame rails on the rear frame plate. The 3rd mounting point hooks up to the rear V-cross member that has 4 mounting holes and sits just above the rear frame plate. Tying into this point makes everything very sturdy and rock solid. Without it, the rear frame plate will flex more than I care to see.

    Thanks,

FWIW, there's also a bracket that lets you mount the jack to the hood hinges. That's a pretty neat spot too, though it seems like it'd be in a good spot to scratch your hood while bolting it in and out.

I'm checking the hood mount out. I kindof like the look of having it up there - but agree with your point John on being a good place to scratch your paint up. It seems if you took your time and were careful - it wouldn't be an issue. But then I think, hmm... the last time I needed to use the hi-lift time wasn't on my side. I haven't ruled those out. But close to it.

Tim Harris has one on his TJ. I think they'd be fine actually. My high lift has hardly ever been used. Lots of people use theirs quite often for different tasks but mine sits patiently in its cradle.

Doesn't seem like you would be able to drop your windshield with the jack over the hood.

 you could always mount it sideways across the bottom under the tire on the swing-away. That is of coarse if you have one 48" or shorter.:coffee:

If you don't mind me asking, where did you pick up those holders for the jerry cans? I've been thinking of making a new tire carrier but I was trying to figure out where to put my jerry cans.

Got mine from a local military surplus store. They are heavier duty
    then the after market ones.

I never saw them at my local one but then again I've never been looking for them. I'll give it a shot.
