The PO of my Jeep installed a Grant Steering Wheel. In addition he really messed up the threads on the upper shaft. The nut just slides on and off. I believe they are brass. Option 1 - Rethread the shaft - Does anyone know the thread size and pitch? I am guessing 3/4"-16? Option 2 - Replace upper shaft - Can anyone provide a source for the upper shaft and/or entire column on a 75 CJ 5? Thanks

do you mean the nut that clamps the wheel to the shaft?

as far as locating a new column, good luck. i found a "new" one via junk yard donor.

i know that borgeson and flaming river make aftermarket shafts that can fit the '75, but they are pricey.

Find a replacement. I had mine come loose and my steering wheel come off at about 65 mph on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Then you can't slip the steering wheel back on because the shaft falls down inside the tube. Hit the brakes and hang on!

The column is a popular replacement for earlier model CJs, thus you're probably not going to find a stock, used replacement cheap. The postal Jeep column is similar, though I don't know if the length is the same.

The CJs were mostly unchanged from 1972-75, so a column from that range will be a direct replacement.
