I don't own a flattie, but I was reading somewhere that you could hand crank the engine. Right?
    1. If so, did this require a special handle?
    2. There is a hole in the front bumper of the cj5 that lines up w/ the engine pulley, can you hand crank them?

I think you're supposed to be able to, but I've never seen the stuff to do it with. I'm sure there's a special nut for the end of the crank for the handle to engage.

Don't think I'd want to do it, I have enough aches and pains thank you.

All it is , is the crank nut has a rod through it..you can buy them from walcks along with the proper handle ..there is a hole offset on the front bumper where the handle goes through..only thing is it is a wrist breaker!!! I dont have any pics to put here of it but my 2 cj2as both have them on them..

Kinda neat - I would crank up my 2A if I had the crank - which I may make one - then after I crank up my Farmall C tractor, I can crank up my 2A!

I wouldn't try it unless you're practiced. The electric starter was invented because of all the injuries resulting from crank starting.

If you're on the flat, you should be able to bump start it by yourself.

I had a GPW years ago and used to hand start it all the time just to get a reaction from people. It never ever gave me any grief. The end of the crank is tappered so once the engine starts it kicks the handle out of the crank nut. I wouldn't use it if your engine is a hard starter.

If you put your thumb on the outside of the handle there shouldn't be any danger with kickback.

So am I right, if I had that nut on the pulley, then I could crank my cj5?

I left my camera at work. I can take a picture of mine. We use it fairly often of late because the starter needs work right now. I used to always be afraid of it, but even my son can do it now. Mine has a Ford script to match my GPW.
