NV4500 5 speed in an early CJ5?

    These transmissions are in pretty high demand. If you can get it for a smokin' price, buy it and resell for a profit (if the "buddy" doesn't mind you turning a profit on it).

    I agree with the others - it *can* be done, but there are probably better options.

    I'm looking in an older AA manual for nv4500. They make addapter for dana18 but state it won" fit in cj5 etc. only longer wheel base jeeps. The did say they fit one in a 66 cj5 v6 but had to move the engine all the way forward and still had a really short rear shaft! How about sm465 Novak makes a addapter thats only 1"! Thats what I'm doing I think.

    The Novak 1" adapter for the sm465 is a compact unit as far as length.
    The unit is very heavy, it makes a t18 look like a toy, the transmission weighs around 175lbs without the adapter or the transfercase attached.
    Here is a photo of the one I rebuilt to go in Coby's 3B.

    What the heck for? By the time I got all that rotating mass spinning I'd have the same net HP I have with the flathead! R)
