Does the VIN # of a jeep appear any where else on the jeep, such as the frame or body besides the VIN tag found on the firewall? The CJ5 in question is a 1973 jeep CJ-5.

    TIA

Hello, I guess I will just jump in to the forum now! I have been observing the wealth of knowledge shared on this great forum for the last couple of months. I just went through this today trying to locate a second VIN on my 75 CJ-5, I found it stamped on top of the frame rail by the right front tire. Anyway, I hope that this is of help, and thanks to the site for helping me out a lot.

Thanks for checking that out CaptDon. Is that number on your frame exactly the same as the VIN number on the firewall tag? The early CJ's have a similar number found on the frame but it doesn't necessarily correspond with the jeep's serial number. I am wondering if the intermediates match a VIN to a body, frame, etc.

    Thanks Again

There's the plate on the firewall and the yellow sticker on the dash. If there's a number stamped in the frame, I'd expect it to match the sequential number part of the VIN. The first part of the VIN indicates the model and configuration, and that's followed by the sequential (aka serial) number. On the VIN plate or in your registration or pink slip, the whole J3... should appear.
