I thought I'd post a few photos of my wiper conversion. Winter is about here and I just put my hardtop on and am ready for winter snows. I always look forward to heavy snow because my 3a is so much fun to wheel around in. With a good hardtop, heater & defroster, NO FOG glass treatment and excellent wipers , visiblity and comfort is not a problem. Herm the Overdrive Guy has a repro defroster duct which I haven't gotten yet, money is always a factor, not fear. Did my wipers a few years ago and they work so excellent. They are CJ5 motor and switch with Wrangler wiper arm mounts and linkage to motor. Pretty straight forward install but for welding CJ motor linkage connector to Wrangler linkage. here's the photo's. hey Willysworker... hope you dont mind but i am thinking about "borrowing" your idea for my flattie...
i found a good deal locally on a wiper setup from a 88 YJ with all linkage and motor/wiper arms.
My question is, since my wiper switch only has a single wire, how do i connect the 5 wire plug to it from the wiper motor? Is there an easy way to convert it?

8 yrs. ago or so, there was a magazine article covering this conversion. I didn't keep record of who, what, when and where. Why don't you use the YJ's switch. My motor and switch are CJ.

I was thinking about using a toggle switch and just doing single speed. would that work with this type of motor?
do you know what the 3 wires actualy do? Does each wire connect for a different wiper speed?

Awesome, thanks Mike... the kit i am picking up is from a YJ (so i think its a 5 wire). I guess i can just go by trial and error until i find the speed that works best "all-around". Toggle switch seems like the best solution as well.

would guess the other 2 wires are for intermittent (sp?) speeds.

one last important thing I didn't mention. The windshield will no longer lay down on the hood. LOL No problem for hardtop fans and hard core wheelers who remove windshield anyway.

Willysworker-Got all the stuff to copy your wiper mod. I assume you have to go to 10 inch wipers instead of the 11 that came with the Wrangler arms. Correct?

Yes, 10" blades. For the passenger side I found a wiper arm that is angle adjustable, otherwise the blade would be in line of site. Custom arms with angled blades would be idea but expensive. A billet set I found was $165. LOL cheapest set was $65. I'm into the whole conversion maybe $100. so those options seem out of line for me. Happy Holidays.
