So I've finally got the 57 CJ5 back together after one of the longest clutch changes ever... Everything seemed to go wrong starting with a broken bolt in the flywheel, to the engine not going back onto the tranny, to the starter not bolting back up. It's been a blast, but now it's finally back together.

The last thing I did was put the front clip back on and bolt in the radiator. Then I started to fill it with fluid and of course, somewhere along the way the radiator developed a crack and the fluid started to leak all over the place.

This whole project has cost me way more then I've really been able to spend on it and a new radiator for the jeep would just about put me over the edge.. I was wondering if anyone out there might have a used radiator that they wouldn't mind parting with. I don't really care if it looks a bit shabby just as long as it works and holds the fluid. Any help would be greatly appreciated.... or if anyone knows where to get a new radiator for less then $300--that'd be cool too.

    Thanks,
    Evan

Yeah. I guess I should probably just break down and get a new radiator.

Don't give up yet! I bought a N.O.S. Willys CJ5 radiator, still in the Willys Motor Co. box, from a member here. It's never been used, still clean inside, and it's identical to the one that was in my '56. I don't want to say what I paid for it, but it was cheap!

In fact, it was such a good deal, you can have my old one for free if you pay the shipping! It's not perfect, but I think it could probably patch up well.

It worked fine when it was running, but then my dad parked the Jeep and it sat for 30 years in dry, indoor storage. The coolant system just basically evaporated and dried out. It has some slightly damaged fins and some green stains on it, so it may have gotten banged into sitting in the back of the shop all those years.

But, I don't need it, so I'll pass it along if you want it. I've gotten a lot of good karma from others here, might as well keep it going.

Are you sure your radiator can't just be patched? Most of those repair guys are pretty good.
