If you've read my earlier post about installing this clutch you'll probably have a good idea of how much of a nightmare this project has become.

Anywho, I'm right now at the point where I've got the clutch all mounted up and I'm putting the motor (F-134 mounted to a T90) back in the CJ5. I was able to get the splines to pretty much line up fine and have been trying to push the motor back onto the transmission shaft. I've got it pretty far but can't seem to get it far enough. I was able to get one of the side bellhousing bolts on, but when I do that it makes it crooked so I can't get that same bolt in on the other side of the bellhousing.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it seems like it should be easier than this... Does anyone know any tricks for getting one of these motors back onto the tranny?

A friend of mine suggested pulling it off again and greasing the splined shaft on the transmission. Would it be worth it to do that?

    Thanks in advance,
    Evan

I've put a tiny bit of grease on mine, should help assuming there isn't a problem with the splines either on the disc or the input shaft. Key thing is it really needs to be lined up nearly perfect to slide together. Also, did you replace the pilot bushing, and if so did you check for fit on the input shaft.

I did replace the pilot bushing, but I didn't check it on the input shaft. However, my clutch alignment tool worked fine on the pilot bushing...

Put a small amount of grease on the splines, pilot bushing and the bearing retainer where the throwout bearing rides. I have always had a bit of trouble with the throwout bearing binding on installation.
