I've got a jeep T18 that needs a rebuild. I guess time has taken its toll as well as the wheeling I like to do.R)

Anyhow, the problem I have is that several years ago I swapped the narrow(4-1) ratio gearset that comes stock in jeep cj T18s for a wide ratio granny low gearset(6.32-1). I am pondering if the snychros are different for the wide ratio gears or not? Of course I didn't check this when I did the swap and have since gotten rid of the gears. I'll blame that on youth! I am trying to figure out if a generic jeep T18 master overhaul kit will work or not. Also where is a good place to by overhaul kit? I've only seen it listed on novaks site.

Also, while I have your attention, my current input shaft bearing retainer does not have a seal. While I haven't looked at it in years, I am confident it doesn't even have a place for the seal. As I remember all it uses are some screw type threads cut into the retainer that I guess pull the oil back into the trans. It never leaks even on some of the steep stuff that I do, however it just seems like it should have one. Can I easily upgrade this part by just buying a new part? I know there were like 6 or 7 different input shaft lengths for jeep trucks and cjs so finding the right one will be hard. Any suggestions for research?

I believe there were two different syncro sizes used on the T-18 depending on the year it was manufactured and not necessarily the ratio. I am living proof that the syncros can be varied within the tranny as long as the correct syncro is matched to the gear. An example is that I have the wider syncros on gears 2 and 3 while the 4th gear syncro is narrower which matches the short input shaft that I installed. I do know that PartsMike sells either size syncro individually if you end up with something like I have.

Regarding the front bearing cap, the seal is on the inside of the cap. When you pull the cap look inside it and you will see it. This seal should come with the master rebuild kit.

I would aim the master kit purchase toward the basis of the tranny year and application (Ford or Jeep).
