When I did the front brake swap on my CJ5, (see tech article) I didn't use any air tools. I haven't done the back ones yet, so I don't know about them. I also don't know the differences between a 5 and a 3B, but I wouldn't think you'd need air tools. I'm sure more knowledgeable folks will have more info.

    No difference between a 5 and a 3B.

Heck I'd say 99% of the work I've done on a Jeep has been without air tools. Lifts on CJs, XJs, TJs, brakes on CJs, working on a Willys truck, etc. Air tools might make some stuff easier but I usually don't feel that I'm lacking.

Go for it! It's a simple job.

Only thing you'll really need to duplicate is bleeding the brakes. I'd say put the new 11" drums on and enjoy your new brakes.

you will need 16 inch rims. the 15 inch ones do not fit over the drums. Other than that its a complete bolt on operation and if you got the bendix style adjusters, watch out because you will lock up the wheels even with the original master cylinder. Be prepared for a rusty brake line that you might need to replace....

No, the 15" only applies to the stock wheels.

Easy job in the driveway ;) You might consider rebuilding the steering knuckles while there. Not much more effort and you'd have the peace of mind that comes along with it.

You can get the seals and all that you need from several places. I preffer www.jeepdoc.com but there are others as well. Good Luck!

I had a set of wagon style 15" rims that didnt fit over the 11" drums. see if your drums fit in there before taking it all apart

You won't need air tools, but you will need a good hub puller to get the rear backing plates on. All the ones I found locally were for smaller lug patterns than an ECJ...if you plan on doing the backs at the same time as the fronts, make sure you can find one that will fit.

Heck when I did my brakes I had my airtools right next to me. Never pulled them out, compressor was full even. I have found the rachet to be useless and the impact gun to be handy at times but still does not even hold a candle to a breaker bar+ 6ft of pipe :)
