So I can't get the automatic choke to work correctly on my 258. Would I be ahead of the game by just pulling it and putting a manual choke on??? I had one on the stock carb years back and thought it was a bit of a pain, but now I'm thinking this is the way to go.

How difficult is the installation of a manual choke?????

Easy on a 2100. I used the "Help" conversion kit, about $15 at your FLAPS. The flimsy bracket they give you to hold the cable end was too cheesy for me, so I ran a piece of steel from the throttle cable mounting bolts on the manifold, over to hold the end of the cable.

The rest of the pieces of the kit go together easily. Again, kind of flimsy, but adequate. You'll need to pick a place to run the cable through the firewall; if you have to drill a hole, I'd suggest you line it with a grommet that has the ID of the cable. Either use an empty hole in the dash for the control end, or the kit supplies a little bracket to mount under the dash IIRC.

Your fast idle cam will still work; if it's adjusted properly, when you push the pedal to the floor and the choke knob is out, the fast idle cam is engaged. To start, give it a pedal pump or two, pull out the cable, push the pedal to the floor and release, and start. When you push in the knob, the fast idle will continue until you blip the throttle.

    hth!

Most FLAPS have convertion Kits that are a less then 15 minute job on hollys. Not sure about the jeep carbs but it cant be to bad.
