I've got a '57 CJ5 and noticed the access panels unfront of the tranny to get to the bellhousing. I'm repainting the jeep and would like to know what color these originally were?

I have the book entitled "Jeep CJ 1945-1986" that has photographs of these panels in CJ5s in both the Jeep's body color, and as gloss black.

Would my 57 have them the same color or would they be black? haha, or should I just paint them black (like i'd like to do) and be done with it)? haha

    Thanks everyone!

IIRC the tunnel covers are black, and the rest are body color.
