Sorry if this idea has been posted before. Thought id pass on my under hood storage system using ammo boxes. The three boxes provide easy access and waterproof storage for tools and misc items.

Nice , Good Idea. I have the old style battery box so I could mount mine where your batt is. BTW I like the GM hood light.

    Thanks

Man , I really like it the more I think about it. Most of the time when your working on the jeep you got the hood up so the tool storage would be easier to access . Man if I ever run into you Im going to havta buy you a beer or 3 . Im going to go though my ammo can storage when I get home to see whats the biggest size I can fit where the new batt box goes.

    Thanks again.

Glad it helps out. Pretty basic really. A flat plate bolted to the box. A flat plate bolted to the fender / firewall. Connect the two with whatever is needed to get the desired angle. I put a piece of carpet on the bottom and store rags stuffed on top of items to keep them from bouncing and rattling around.

I made these two boxes for storing tow straps and related recovery gear for quick access out back. If you look close, in the first pic, you'll see a square tube angled upward. This is attached to bottom of each box and is my fishing pole holder. ( not that I ever catch anything ! ) [IMG]

I like the idea. I like how you painted them the same color as the engine compartment of the jeep. Looks like they belong there. Good Job.

Thats what I was originally planing to do to my jeep is have a mount on top of the spare and beside the spare with a jerry can opisite . Then I was planing on making a quick mount (like on a tractor tool box) for ammo cans on my rocker skids.

IIRC it was a Claw hammer in the pictures, right? so any old hole in the dash rip or tear in the sheet metal or missing panel.....he could just hang it from that, good to go....right?R)

Wonder if I can fit one under the batter holder lid on my '60 CJ5?
That is just unused space at this time.

Years ago, around 1973 or '74, while I was stationed at Fallon, Nev. I had a 47 '2a that I ran around the Nevada desert in. I used one of the really big ammo cans as a toolbox and also the base for my rear seat.. worked out real good... looking for another ammobox for the same reason.

Check out Army-Navy surplus stores. They usually don't sell the cans cheap but they always have a ton of multiple sizes.

I'm liking this idea alot, though I'm worried that it will rattle all over the place. Lining it with a good bit of shag (I need to pull the shag off the floor of my CJ from that previous owner anyway...) would help though. On a vehicle this old I like to be able to have an idea of what each rattle is. Having a ton of metal rattles from the front end would make that a bit harder.
