O.K. I still don't know what the original serial number on my JEEP is or what year it is for that matter. With a repro tub the only number available would be the one on the frame. I think the original location was where my steering box is welded on. Can anyone confirm that for me. It's a Willys frame. Thanks!

The serial number should be on the passenger side frame rail roughly where the front and rear shock mounts are. There are usually 2 stampings.;)

as you stated, it would have also been where the steering gear is mounted now..
I found mine back on the right rear of the frame, in front of the shock mount

Yeah I'm afraid it's back there. I haven't been able to find it anywhere else.

I guess the guy who had the job of stamping the numbers must have got tired of looking at the same spot on the frame, so he moved around to keep his job more interesting.
Mine is stamped on the left frame rail facing up right behind the front bumper. it is actually stamped on the original gusset that is riveted to the top of the frame and attaches to the bumper. about where your tow hook is located.

Mine on all my 2-a's are on aluminum tags riveted to the outside of the left front frame horn, right behind the bumper.

    CD60,

After reviewing your pictures I suspect you have a CJ3A But we need you to measure the length of the rear wheel wells to be sure.

The CJ3A gained a whopping 1" extra belly room in the driver seat over the CJ2A model. The CJ-3A advertised increased space for the driver compared to the 2A. This was accomplished by shortening the rear wheelwell and moving the drivers seat rearward. The length of the 3A wheelwell from the top front edge to the rear of the body is 32". The length of the 2A wheelwell is 34".

Although there could have been modifications from previous owners, the tell tales are the windshield, and lack of soft top bow storage brackets on the driverside. One odd item is the solid rear and lack of a tailgate, which could also make this a DJ rather than a CJ but I believe the DJ had a large speedo like the CJ5, and you appear to have had CJ2/3 gauge layout.

It is too new to have a frame tag and the only place it would be is on two tags mounted on the firewall, passengerside above the heater knock outs and to the left of the air cleaner (stock location).

Like this example on my 48 CJ2A, look to the far left and you can make out the two tags: http://48cj2a.com/images/Engine_Curbside.JPG
