My '48 2A has been converted over to 12V by the previous owner. I put in a new fuel tank and want to put in a new sending unit. The only ones I can find, however, are 6V.

What I want to know is how do I get this to work? Isn't there some sort of a "reducer" or "resistor" that I can put on the line to make it work?

Or if someone knows where to get a 12V version, that'd be cool! haha

    Thanks,
    Evan

6 volt, 12 volt, or 24 volt. All of the fuel gauges can use the same sending unit. The only difference is the gauge.

I know when I ordered my replacement tank they had the original tank with the 5 screw hole sendig unit (6volt) and they had a 6 screw hole sending unit (12 volt). So there is some diff. in the 6 vs 12 volt sending units.

It's not the sending unit, it's the gauge; All the sending unit is is a rheostat to change the resistance value. If you want to use a 6v gauge in a 12v vehicle, you need to add a voltage-dropping resistor in the line to make the gauge happy. All the jeep parts places carry them.

interesting. so if I get the sending unit listed as 6v it will work with a fuel gauge listed as 12v?

Not just any 12 volt guage, its one that is going to have to match up with the stock sender's resistance range. Do a search, someone recently posted a part number of, IIRC, an Autometer guage that works with the stock sender.
