I need to get a new one, since the bearings appear to be going out, they like to squeal from time to time now. When I was looking at krages site they offer a waterpump rebuild kit thats 30 bucks cheaper $14 vs $44 for a new one. How hard is it to rebuild a water pump, I've never heard of anyone doing it. Or is this one of those things thats worth the extra $ to go ahead and just get the new one??

Buy the new one. When I was wrenching we never replaced with rebuilt water pumps. Definately worth the extra few dollars.

I don't think it's worth the time to try and rebuild yours
pressing off the pulley and/or impeller without damaging them
does the new pump come with the pulley ?
if not, they can be hard to remove somtimes

Pretty sure the pulley was on the new pump in the pic. Thats what I was wondering was how hard it is to dissasemble a old water pump. Its not all rusted up inside or out if that matters.

I'd buy the new one. We used to rebuild these things for tractors and forklifts well worth the $30 difference to have a new one. Now if you want to do it so you can say you did and keep it for a spare that's another subject.

That wasnt the plan, only reason I was gonna do it that way was b/c I'm cheap ;) But I'll prob. go ahead and get the new one. Knowing my luck Id try and rebuild and end up having to buy a new one after its all said and done.

I' changed out three "rebuilt" pumps in one day before. I tend to lean towards the new ones now. On the bright side I can change one on a 79 ford van with a 302 in about 45 minutes now, they say practice makes perfect.
