what carb, and are you talking about the throttle cable or the throttle linkage?

I don't have a picture handy, but it is fairly straightforward.

on the rear of the carb (the side where the throttle linkage connects, there should be a small L shaped plate. There is a hole in the plate.

cable comes through the firewall in a hole in the same rubber insulator that the choke comes through, across the rear of the engine kinda parallel with the choke cable. The cable is cinched to the carb using the same bracket as the choke. The inside cable goes on through the small hole in the L shaped plate.

Then there is a small lock (stop) slid over the cable end that fastens to the cable via a small screw.

Remember to remove enough of the exterior shield of the cable so that you can exercise the gas pedal and throttle fully without causing the L shaped plate to bind or jam on the exterior sleeve of the cable.

This allows for the gas pedal to move freely because the L shaped bracket moves over the interior of the throttle cable and pulling the throttle cable will advance the L shaped bracket because of the stop that is fastened to the interior of the cable.

    :iagree:

Please fill in your profile so we know what you're working with unless you're going to tell us in your posts in the future. We cover a variety of engines in this forum. Not all of us are able to recall what every one drives and has for a drivetrain. :)

    I think he's restoring a '55, IIRC. Here's a couple of shots, I'll look for some more.

OK, here's some more. My carb didn't have the hand throttle cable anymore, but you can see the "L" shaped bracket/plate that kamel mentioned. Please note: my choke linkage rod is not correct! That's a piece of coat hanger that some PO rigged up. I've since found the correct linkage rod.

Here's another shot of a different carb, you can see that "L" plate better. It's the one with the hole in it. This is where the cable for the hand throttle goes through, and there would be a clamp of some kind on the end of the cable to keep it from pulling back through the hole.

I'm sure you have more questions, so this is the oil bath air cleaner assembly...

And this is a vacuum-type fuel pump. The rubber hose looping those two tubes isn't supposed to be there. The left tube connects into the PCV valve system, and the right tube is for the hose to the vacuum wipers. On the top, the left fitting goes to the carb, the right fitting goes to the tank.

Well, looky here, another photo. And this is even on a '57! Notice that the throttle cable AND the choke cable are clamped under two separate clamps, that are under the same screw. These are on a bracket that's mounted to the carb, that bracket and the clamps are sometimes missing and hard to find.
