What is my top speed with my 74 Cj5 in a flat tow, being pulled by my Suburban?

Towing my CJwith my S10, I hit 65 once or twice, I was most comfortable between 55 and 60.

With a 'Burb, you probably won't even notice the CJ unless you look in the mirror :D

Whatever you feel is safe, and legal.

The only downside to flat towing is that the Jeep has no brakes, so you have to think ahead. Otherwise, my experience is that they tow smooth and fast with no problems.

I towed mine to NC last year and ran about 75 the whole way (3100 miles round trip).
    Just Sayurday I pulled a '71 home (100 miles) and ran 80......
So, like already mentioned, whatever you feel safe with..

I towed mine about 220 miles with my v8 Dakota, ran most of the way around 70-72 mph. Braking is something to be aware of though, leave yourself plenty of room!

I had my 74 behind a newer durmax, I pulled out to pass and got it up a tad too fast. At about 80 the jeep took off back and forth. Couldn't feel it in the truck, just noticed it in the mirror as I was getting ready to pull back in. I feel very fortunate that the jeep didn't go over. I wouldn't get it over 70 any more. Scared...

I usually stay just below what speed of traffic is -- so basically making other people negotiating around me rather than me them. So 65-ish on the freeway, etc. Then I can just set the cruise and forget about it.

I towed my Jeep home from Oklahoma on a U-Haul tow dolly, in a blizzard and ice storm, 2 days before Christmas. That was NO fun, especially when the whole rig slid off the road and mowed down a 2-pole highway mileage sign. At least the tow dolly is what hit the sign and took all the damage, very little to the Jeep and my pickup.

Tore the drivers side step off and bent the hat channel, got a small dent on the rocker, and a very small crack on the truck taillight. Sure did f' up the dolly and the sign though. I was very lucky that none of the 8 tires on the road were damaged, since it was dusk and about 8 degrees, with sleet and blowing snow, and I was in the middle of the OK panhandle.

    So, be careful!

Yup. My CJ has a tendency to shove the back end of my S-10 around, so I just don’t feel comfortable much above 60 and generally try to keep it right there.
Though, I’ve pulled it with one budies Z-71 and anothers Dodge 1ton at 70 and just like you said, didn’t even notice it.
