My T14 tranny pops out of reverse as soon as you let the clutch out. If you hold the shifter while driving there's no problem. What would cause this?

    Thanks

That's may be right. If you look at an expanded drawing of the T-14 or T-15, you'll see that the input gear and cluster gear spin all the time, and that the gear is selected by locking one of the mainshaft gears to the mainshaft - the gears don't actually move (other than to rotate).

The locking is done by a sliding hub, called the clutch sleeve, that slides over protruding teeth on the end of the gear, in this case reverse gear. If the teeth on the gear wear down, or the mating clutch hub wears, the surfaces will round over and push away from each other under load. This may be your problem.

Another possibility is the bushing inside the reverse gear is worn. This allows the reverse gear to skew slightly on the main shaft, which pushes the clutch hub and gear apart and out of gear.

Sounds like I have an excuse to upgrade to the T18 or SM420 now.:)
