Just fired off my jeep last night after replacing a cracked head, carb rebuild, new gas tank, installed new EZ wire harness and a bunch of other little repairs and stuff. Everything worked great except the temp gauge does not work.

It did not work before I did all the work either. I was hoping that the new sensor and wiring would fix it but it did not. My jeep has on of those instument panels where everthing is in one cluster. I replaced it a couple of years ago. I put my trouble light on the sensor with the motor hot and running and it sends a signal of a dull blinking light. I think that is normal. Under the dash at the gauge I get the dull blinking light on one post and a bright blinking light on the post that gets power from the panel. I think this is right so does it sound like my gauge is bad ? And if so is there any way to replace those or do I have to buy a whole new gauge cluster ?..................Thanks

Which side of the sending wire should I ground? The sending unit side or the gauge side ?

take the wire off of the sending unit on the engine
momentarily ground it on the block or a ground wire
then check to see if the needle moves

Ok, I got it. I will try it tonight. And if the needle does not move than does that mean the gauge is bad.................?

check ebay, they have a few different gauge replacements for temp and fuel that fit into the factory cluster so you won't have to buy a whole new speedometer gauge which runs a little over a $100 the replacements are around $25 hope that helps and good luck
