Hi there, it is a little confussing, but yes there is a "bell crank" in the steering linkage of the early cj-5's.you should be able to see it in the repair manual(you have a manual, right?)it mounts to the front cross member.went to saginaw but the mount is still on the x-member.happy jeeping mike s.

From what you see in the pic:

The steering is still simliar, although the tie rod angle is even worse now than when the pic was taken:( . I've got a spare set of knuckles being reamed out for a tie rod flip as of this writing. Flipping should bring the angle between the bell crank and pass side knuckle close to parralel with the ground. I bought a one-piece AA rod. Should help minimize bump steer. Hopefully be able to finish that in another week or two. Still going to stick with the Ross box for a while, though. I know I'm in the minority, but mine works for me. I've got a Saginaw unit/pump/hoses and various column parts sitting in the corner of the garage for when it eventually fails.

Those drums are gone with Chevy discs in their place.

The home made main eye/shackle brackets mounted to that bumper and frame are gone with some aftermarket units in their place.

Shocks were relocated to axle mounts.

Some of that rust wire brushed.

MT tires just arrived tonight via Brown Santa.

Thanks for the clarification. It does create confusion when 2 entirely different parts go by the same name.

Mine is an intermediate, my set up is different.

I was going to suggest a one piece tie rod but wasn't sure if your current setup is pictured. Personally, I'd be nervous driving a Jeep with tie rods angled like that. Every time your axle moves your toe changes.

Your Jeep should drive much better with the one piece setup.
