I feel as if I'm cursed with this Jeep. :(

Everything that can go wrong has and only one thing has been a direct result of my ineptitude.

Not trying to be a wiseacre (for a change) but did you check the carb gasket to see if you might have a pinhole vacuum leak? I haven't worked on a 2G in ages, but a lot of carbs of that vintage had a vacuum passage in the base that supplies the vacuum port for the distributor. If the gasket isn't set in place just so, you could have a little tiny leak that could cause a stumble.

Other than that, I'd vote for the float being too low.

Mine too, but I think it would cause an off idle stumble.

You want another 2 G to play with till you get this figured out? I got one sitting on a shelf that ran good here when I took it off 2 years ago.

FWIW - if you can open it, check the jets in it and compare the setups as well.

I would also vote for float level as the first and pump second.

If it'll make you feel better, we had a carb issue on a 258, went through three remans and it still ran like crud.

Considering I rebuilt the one that's on the CJ-5 that runs perfectly right now I'm tempted to find out.

But if it's something they broke and I can't fix I don't want to get in there and find it's not just the float level or something simple like that, ya know?

I understand.... I've thought about buying a reman, because all of the throttle plates I have are worn somewhat. Not sure at this point where I'd order it from, though.

Sparky I just rebuilt the carb on my boat, it is a 302 ford with a factory 2g. I have not started it yet but the 1st kit I had had a totally different accelerator pump than my carb had, it wouldn't hardly work, it sealed but wouldn't pump right it was very sticky internally and totally inconsistent. I got to digging around and found an older rebuild kit for my Jeep's 2g , pulled the accelerator out of that kit and it fit fine and seems to work the way its suppose to.

was the replacement pump cup leather or rubber?
I like the leather ones (if they can be found)

It was rubber, I have not seen a leather one in years.
The main problem seemed to be that the spring under the pump did not fit right and the cup molded in the plastic was not the same shape so the spring kind of moved all over the place.
