I'm putting in all new ball joints , Dana 30 .

Where is a place I can get a hold of the spanner wrench ,that installs the new seat in the upper axle yoke/ear ??

Any ideas , checked a few auto stores today with no luck .

    Thanks in advance

I couldnt find one in any local store. i ended up having to "modify" a sacrificial socket to make it work.

I believe Napa has one. I know Snap-On has one too, but at a Snap-On price.

Napa is my next try , I know if I find it it's going to be one of those specialy priced tools , so the socket modify trick sounds pretty good .

    :)

I should of found it before , I installed the passenger side the seat looked in pretty good shape .

Went to the driver side and everything looked great , except when I went to tightnen down the bottom nut ,the ballstud spins .
I think the old seat is sitting down a tad to low for the lower bvall to press in good and tight.

Anyone have any ideas to kepp it from spinning, cant back off or tightten.:?

If you placed a bottle jack under the ball joint, wouldn't it force the stud into the taper and help it keep from spinning?

The inner nuts provide preload and must be backed out before installing the knuckle. The bottom nut is torqued, then the inner nut followed by the top nut. Be sure to clean the inner threads to get the proper torque reading. I don't have the specs in front of me, but if I remember right, bottom 100LBS, inner 45, and the top 90.

Could'nt find a wrench in town ,not even Napa, Did order one off Ebay .

Finally got the lower stud to stop spinning , just going to wait for the wrench and install the new seat's.

As for the torque on the bolts yep 70 - 90 ft lb on the lower , 50 ft lb inner and 100 ft lb on the upper .

Thanks for all the replies

fwiw, any FLAPS can get them if they carry Speciality Products. Speciality Products is a company that specializes in alignment products. so you'll probably need to ask for the alignment catalog. anyway, they're less than 20 bucks.

also they make offset collars so maybe if you need to correct caster/camber problems or correct for turning up the pinion you can order some of those also. we order those sockets any time we do balljoint work on 30s or 44s.

i've got a sleugh of these sockets if anybody needs one. i bought a snappy along time ago, so i don't use them.
