I have a ACME fiberglass hardtop on my 74. It's a rattle trap, as the mounting brackets have all broken.
It is not a take off and put on top like the newer factory
tops. The doors are quickly removed and rear window can be taken off so you can get some good air blowing thru.

By the way mine is for sale :)

The shape and angle of the windshield changes in 1976. Any top for a '75 or earlier CJ-5 will fit, or you can change to the later windshield and the 76-on top will fit. The doors are a different shape becasue of the change in the windshield.

There's noone making aftermarket hard tops for pre-76 AFAIK, although you can find them on the used market with a little searching.

JMO - get a soft top.

AJ's was the last company that I know of that made them and they went out of business about 2 years ago. They made very nice ones too.;)

The best aftermarket top I’ve ever seen was by Fleet Air. It’s a two piece top and the doors were great. They discontinued it but still have it listed on the their site. http://www.fleetair.com/Jeep.htm The guy selling the one I saw wanted a little too much for my taste.

as far as used tops the MEYER top in the later version is what i have .there OK,but i had to do rust repair and paint and so on.i'm going to have a LOT of money invested when it's done.but like others have noted there aren't a lot of choices for new ones mike s.
