Any suggestions on how to check for spark with one person? I'm getting fuel from my electric fuel pump and my coil is getting hot. I could replace parts all day but, diagnosis is not my forte.

Get or make a remote starter button that way you can be up front and crank over the motor.

My remote starter wont work on the Jeep. I have to engage the starter gear with the flywheel when I push the "start" button with my foot. Is it not like this on all the Willys? It sure looks factory. I guess I will have to take the hood off and set up some mirrors.

You mentioned that you know the coil is getting hot.. Assuming you tested the positive side with a test light and the key on. Have you jammed a test light on the neg terminal on the coil and cranked her over? The light should blink if the coil is good. Better check there first if you haven't.

After that, I'd immagine you could swing a leg in to engage the starter while grounding a wired plug from the side? I usually just grab a wire with my hand and make sure I'm grounded in a way that I can escape from easily. It only hurts for a minute.. :)

I put the timing light on the plug and aim it toward the cab... just put a piece of tape on the trigger if you have one.

I went out there again, spit straight up in the air, kicked the tailgate and turned the key, and mashed the button to the floor and VROOOM!

Actually it was more like CLACK,CLACK,CLACK,CLACK

Yeah that was a no brakes trial run. Anybody have a good source for brake lines? I have 2.5" springs and stretched the fronts too far.

Simple. Bump the engine till the points are closed. Leave the key on. Take the coil secondary wire and hold it about 1/4 inch from the block. With your fingernail(or plastic knife) open and close the points. Every time you open them, you should get a spark.

You know I went looking for the points and they aren't where they have been in the past for me. During my musclecar phase and then through my VW phase all points have been under the distributer cap. Where are they on the L134?

Thanks everybody for the congrats. This is a really big moment for me.

Runnamok is right. They're in the distributor unless you have a Pertronix unit.

Seeing your Jeep driving around in that pic made me smile and I wasn't even driving it. :)
