Can anyone tell me the hwy difference in Shifting levers on the V-6 JEEPs. I've seen Dauntless JEEPs, all with the T-86aa, with straight shifting levers and some with levers that have a bend in them. Just courious if anyone knows if there is a difference or why it is.

I've attached a couple of pics showing what I'm talking about. In the top one the shifter has got two bends. In the bottom, the shifter is more straight. Both are T-86 transmissions. Anyone.....

Mine looks like the first, MOP's looks like the second. Not a Flattie shifter Karl, it's an early 5 shifter. I'm curious as well. Was it just a whimsical change?

Not that my Jeep is much to go by. '71 w/ a T86...

I thought your shifter was different than mine.

    Maybe mine's not even pictured?

Nevermind, mine's like the one on top. Wonder why I thought yours was different Mike?

Better image of the first style:

The one on bottom is my CJ-6. Teh top is another members CJ, a '66 IIRC. Both my early CJs w/:v6: are the straight type. My 6 is Dec. '65 build and the 5A is January '66 build, so both earlier production. Its just something thats peaked my interest.

My T86 had a shift cane like Sparky's.... The first t14 I used had a "dog leg" in it, butnothing like that t86... The t14 tower/ cane I have in there now only has the one bend at the bottom, like the t90 cane...Dunno...

Well, maybe thats it. I looked at both of my Jeeps and the trans casings are stamped T-86AA, but the shift towers are stamped T-90-14B. Interesting, probably another example of using what ever was available on the assembly line at the time.
