My recent brake job lasted a week before the MC started leaking. Since it had a stuck bolt with a rounded-over head from a previous owner (POS) I hoped it would be fine. Saturday I couldn't stand it anymore and took the floor apart (again) with all it's generations of patching. This gave me enough access to cut the head off with a sawsall, slide the MC over until it hit the engine and cut the bolt off between it and the frame. Mounting the new one, the backing bolts were loose so I had to hold the nuts on the back while a buddy turned teh bolt to catch a thread. Hooked it all up and re-bled the system and it stops just fine. We had a celebratory beach cruise afterwards.

I had to work arround the same shaft...also the exhaust pipe. I had it on jack stands so my nose would clear everthing. Not to mention saftey glasses to keep the rust out of my eyes.

Brake fluid and trans fluid and hydraulic fluid are basically the same critter
I've driven my 79' Diplomat with trans fluid in the brakes and vice versa for about ten years mixed. The only reason I have brake problems now is cause it sat for a year.
I would personnaly goes with the best fluid that is friendly to the seals, does not absorb moisture or eat paint.
    my 2 cents:)

been using dot 5 (silcone) for about 4 years now. make sure all the rubber is new, or you need to use alcohol to clean the system.
