Anybody ever tried to rob a wiring harness off a cj? I got to thinking. I havn't ordered the EZ yet, and have a harness on my 77 where everything works. Just wondering if it would be worth the effort before I ordered the EZ. I know it's just $150 but I'd like to get away without spending it. Does that make me cheap?:)

You might be able to make it work, but it has been my experience that you are better off spending the $150 for a new one. Brittle insulation, old connectors, besides the fact that the harness is somewhat different physically. I could talk myself out of that real fast.
BTW, I consider myself cheap too. LOL...

Well, I was just curioius, cause I'm transferring all the lights front to rear from the donor, the alternator's going, the resistor, the ECU, the solenoid, and whatever other shiny parts that show themselves.

X2 on this, and then you also end up having a bunch of wires left that you don't need and it ends up being a mess. You might get out a good bit cheaper by just getting a fuse panel from FLAPS and some wire and toggle switches and stuff and running all of it that way if you can get it all figured out though.

In that case, you might be just as well off as long as all of the wiring is in good shape on the doner and you take the time to remove it the right way.

That's music to a cheap man's ears. I really want a solid jeep that runs strong and performs when I need it too, but at the same time I don't have any desire (yet) to be one of these guys that admits he's spent $10k on his jeep. I have play money but I can't play that much.

That is one of the main reasons all of my projects are on hold until about this time next year.:(

I'll keep my mouth shut. I set down and did the math the other day. I have a really good idea how much I have spent on mine so far.

I can't do that. My wife tends to look over my shoulder when I start figuring on something.

I just ripped out a '76+ wiring harness from mine to install the EZ Wire.

I had so many extra wires with the old harness, not to mention cruddy insulation, etc., I didn't know what I could remove and what had to stay. At least with the EZ Wire everything is labled. I can keep track of what I need and what can be cut and left unused.

JMO but get the EZ Wire, it will be much easier to wire the Jeep.

I'm still working on finishing up the lights and turn signals. Getting there, got to get everything back up under the dash now.

If you're going the rewire route, be sure to check out Del City for electrical parts. They're a true wholesale reseller so you get a LOT more for your money, or the same parts for a LOT less. They'll sell small quantities which is something most big electrical companies won't do.
