Alright guys still having problems with this T90. Only had second gear before, it appeared to be a shifter problem. Ordered a new shifter with forks etc. When I first installed it I still had the same issue. I pulled it checked my install and replaced it. Now I have reverse where third is supposed to be and no forward gears. What gives??? Is there a special way to install the shifter and forks. And yes I do have the forks going over the collars where they are supposed to be. I can remove the shifter and manually move the gears to get reverse, 1st, 2nd and third. This thing is making me feel like an idiot.

Don't feel bad. A "professional" shop did the same thing to me, and billed me for their time.

Hey Pete how did you resolve it. This is a project I want to do myself, even if I have to replace it. It is supposed to be a sanity break from work. If I wanted somthing perfect and a driver I could have bought it. I just can't figure this thing out. Any ideas?

I don't know how R could be where 3rd is supposed to be, unless it is on backwards, and I can't imagine that being possible?

Sounds like the forks are on the wrong shift rail... I believe. Doing this from memory, so verify with a manual.

Sitting in Driver seat with the shifter on - Pass Side rail should have fork for 1st, Rev - so when you flip it over it will be on Driver side to check it.

Other possibility - cane on backwards and top is on reversed?

    Worth a looksee...

Can you or did you put the shifter in a vise so you can move it to the different positions? Also, when you install the shifter do you have both the transmission and shifter in neutral position?

Thats what I was looking for Glenn. I purchased a new shifter and was not sure if I had to have the shifter and tranny in any special position. Now if I can find neutral in the gear box. I will let you know if it works.

    Thanks for the help!!!

Neutral in the transmission is the synchronizer hub in the center position so it doesn't engage either the input shaft or second gear. The sliding gear should be positioned so it's not engaging 1st or reverse. You might have to play with the shifter to get the rods/forks in the right position. As long as everything is in the right position being in neutral shouldn't matter, it's just a bit easier and safer to do it that way.

Do a search for T-90 rebuild on this site or on the web. There is a site out there(cant remember the address or the guys name). But there is a write up out there that covers a T-90 rebuild from A-Z. Its all I used to do mine. If I find it I'll let you know.
