I never tried the copper gaskets, always replaced with the standard ones. Doubled up once but they always manage to blow out! Now this is probably a common problem isn't it? Wouldn't you think there's some sort of wrap? I know when I fix this leak its so quiet and I have lots more power, your suggestions are much appreciated ty.

Yea everything butts up together right but just seems that the material itself doesn't stand up to the power of this 360

make sure the flange that contacts the head is smooth and straight........Copper gaskets work really well!

I had them on the SBC that Frank now has!

If you can find them, Mr. Gasket makes their "Pro Series" gaskets that are about twice the thickness of their standard header gaskets. Not sure about the availability, they may not be available anymore for the AMC engines. I'd try Jegs, Summit, etc.

From what I gather, headers need to be torqued, and retorqued, and retorqued, and ...

Even cast manifolds should be retorqued after after a few days, and retorquing again wouldn't hurt. Safety wire might be worthwhile for header bolts.

ive heard of owners cutting off and separating the header pipes so that each pipe is bolted to the head but separated from each other. ive also heard owners cutting and putting spacer gaps between each pipe....ive never done this but i heard it works, i guess ill try it when my headers leak

Are you talking about the collector gasket or the gasket at the head?? Either way I'd double check and make sure they are good and strait and not warped at all.

The collector gasket. Whenever I put in new gaskets it sounds tight! But they don't last very long :*( OK thanks guys guess I'll try out copper ones for now and get back with ya.
